Parish
marks visit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr.’s historic visit to Queen of Angels
Parish, Newark, in March of 1968 was remembered last month at a
special service.
Accompanied by strains of “We Shall Overcome,” a procession
that included a host of clergy, the parish choir, and the Knights
and Ladies Peter Claver, made its way into the historical church.
Bishop
Moses B. Anderson of the Ar chdiocese of Detroit was the guest celebrant
for the Mass. He began his homily by singing to the congregation
and addressed them in a relaxed fashion, often drawing their laughter.
But as he focused his attention on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., he
became reflective, choosing his words slowly and deliberately.
