Lenten
message focus is on great gift of life
|
|
VATICAN
CITY (VIS) You received without paying, give without
pay, is the theme of Pope John Paul IIs message for
Lent 2002.
An
edited version of the message was prepared by Vatican Information
Service:
You
received without paying, give without pay. May these words
of the Gospel echo in the heart of all Christian communities on
their penitential pilgrimage to Easter. May Lent, recalling the
mystery of the Lords Death and Resurrection, lead all Christians
to marvel in their heart of hearts at the greatness of such a gift.

Pope
addresses Vatican court --
Importance of marriage bond emphasized
(From
Vatican News Service and CNS reports)
VATICAN
CITY Even though the idea of divorce is deeply rooted in
parts of society, it is important to advocate the idea of the
indissolubility of marriage in social customs and civil
legislation, Pope John Paul II said.
Lawyers,
as independent professionals, the Holy Father said, must
always decline to use their profession to an end contrary to justice
and, for the good of society, should avoid encouraging or promoting
divorce, the Holy Father added.
Pope
John Paul, following annual tradition, spoke late in January on
the inauguration of the judicial year, to officials, and lawyers
of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota (the Churchs official
court).

Kearny
Parish prays for veterans
BY
ROBERT DYLAK
They
came to Sunday Mass in the sky-blue jackets of Catholic War Veterans,
or the dungarees and white hats of Tin Can Sailors who
served on U.S. Navy destroyers. A few wore the red jackets of the
Marine Corps League, and others wore the uniform of the Veterans
of Foreign Wars or the insignia of the Merchant Marine.
The
men and women honored at St. Stephens Church on Sunday, Feb.
3 shared a legacy of Catholicism and military service during wartime
or they had given a son or husband to keep the nation secure.
Their hair was gray but they stood tall.

You
will KNOW, if it's a Catholic School!
If
you wanted to know about science from the eco-system
of a garden plot to the solar system which the entire
planet shares you should have been at the St. Anthony School
Science Fair that celebrated Catholic Schools Week.
The
Elizabeth school offered information on topics ranging from dinosaurs
to butterflies. And if you ever wondered how electric energy is
changed into motion, one of the youngsters exhibits could
have explained it. The open house and science fair were part of
Catholic Schools Week observances held around the Archdiocese that
celebrated learning in a faith-full environment.
