Letter to the editor...
The news of Bishop Myer's new assignment to the Archdiocese of Newark comes with mixed emotion. We realize we are loosing a truly humble and dedicated spiritual leader, yet at the same time, we are most happy for Bishop Myers.

...Given a little time to acclimate to his new surroundings, your new Archbishop will prove to be all that you had hoped for and more.

To the flock he leaves behind, he has been a good Shepherd in every sense of the word. Of the many gifts he leaves us, two of the most significant are his teachings and love of the Eucharist and the institution of the John Bosco Institute, a massive yet much needed undertaking, established to ensure that all teachers and presenters of the Catholic faith, will teach the truth, the mind and heart of the Church.

As Director of Religious Education in one of the largest parishes and schools in the Peoria area, I truly appreciated the quality and strength of his leadership.

Letter from the editor...
The outpouring of good wishes for Newark’s Archbishop John J. Myers is evidence of how welcome the priests, Religious Sisters and Brothers, and lay people hope to make their new Shepherd. At the same time, the congratulatory messages from bishops across the country are evidence of the high regard in which Archbishop Myers is held.

The staff of the Catholic Advocate was overwhelmed by the numbers of people wishing to express their congratulations. The work we have done was a ray of hope in the flow of news that reflected a very sad chapter in our nation’s history. We wish to express our thanks and appreciation to our colleagues at the Catholic Post, official newspaper of the Diocese of Peoria, whose collaboration made this edition possible.

The members of the Board of Trustees and Catholic Advocate staff join in welcoming our Archbishop to his new home. We look forward to the future with Faith and hope. We know he will lead us to a growing and deepened love of God and our neighbor!
