Student
safety addressed
By Brian Fores
|
| A
top priority...the
safety of students |
With the nation on alert against possible acts of terrorism and war
in Iraq ever-present in the minds of parents and students, Catholic
schools in the Archdiocese of Newark are doing their part to ensure
the safety of students and reinforce faith-based values.
School administrators are revising crisis management guidelines
in tandem with local authorities, running evacuation drills, and
trying to maintain an open dialogue with students about their concerns.

Making
a point... |
Archbishop John J. Myers is confident in the “goodness and
generosity” of the people and priests of the Archdiocese of
Newark despite the “challenging time” facing the Annual
Archbishop’s Appeal (AAA).
The Archbishop spoke to the pastors and parish workers involved
in this year’s AAA at two separate sessions March 18-19.

| 'Time,
Talent and Treasure' lives at St.Luke
By Steven G. Sears
Stewardship is alive just off of Routes 17 and 502 in the hills
of Bergen County.
I recently visited the Catholic Parish Family of St. Luke’s
Church in Ho-Ho-Kus on a brisk but bright Tuesday afternoon. The
warmth of the sun outside radiated inside as I sat with Barbara
Motta, Ann McClelland and Tim Courtney to discuss St. Luke’s
Stewardship endeavors. Passion radiated from these three individuals,
and I am certain that same feeling reigns in a very good majority
of their fellow parishioners as well. Time, Talent and Treasure
is a yearround focus for these folks who “are further committed
to address the spiritual, physical, emotional and social needs of
all people through service to individuals, families, parish and
the greater community.”

Mass
celebrates couples' 25th, 5th wedding anniversaries
By
Ward Miele

A
MEMORABLE MOMENT- After Mass, Archbishop Myers individually
congratulated each couple and presented them with a memento
of the occasion. |
God’s gift of each other in marriage was celebrated during Mass
at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart by couples throughout
the Archdiocese marking their 25th and 5th anniversaries.
Archbishop John J. Myers celebrated the Sunday afternoon Mass which
included a blessing of the couples’ wedding rings.
In
a message to the couples and their families who filled the Cathedral
Basilica, Archbishop Myers said “you have all been witnesses
to the love of God by the years you have lived your commitment to
marriage.” He went on to call their marriages “testimonies
to the reality that God’s grace in the Sacrament of Matrimony
has enabled you to live the commitments of married life.”
