Emergency medical services honored

Emergency Medical Services personnel filled the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark.

Members of the Emergency Medical Service throughout the Archdiocese of Newark filled the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart on Divine Mercy Sunday for the inaugural Mass in honor of their life-saving profession.

Msgr. Richard J. Arnhols, Vicar for Pastoral Services, celebrated the Mass on a beautiful early spring afternoon.

Dreams of a parish become Stewardship reality

Taking ownership in a parish and living out the message of Stewardship go hand in hand. That’s what the parishioners at the Church of the Annunciation, Paramus, are finding out firsthand.

In 1997, long before the concept of Stewardship was introduced to all parishes in the Archdiocese of Newark, Pastor Father Michael Sheehan, in a survey asked his parishioners, “What are your dreams for our parish?” The answers were tallied, and the top five became the focus and mission of the parish and his ministry there.

Prison Ministry is a special calling

It is perhaps one of our most challenging ministries, but the prison ministry of the Archdiocese of Newark also involves a special calling.

“When we visit the prisons, we are visitors of Jesus. These are the ‘throw-away’ people that no one wants anything to do with. People involved in the ministry have grown in numbers, by the grace of God, and are totally dedicated to serving those in prison,” asserted Deacon David Loman, Prison Ministry Director.
