Archbishop, Governor help feed the hungry at soup kitchen

"It’s the oldest Catholic parish in New Jersey. And [former pastor] Msgr. John Hourihan is a dear friend of mine. We’ve all been blessed by his missives," explained Governor James McGreevey last Tuesday when asked why he was visiting St. John’s Church Soup Kitchen on Mulberry Street in Newark.

Sexual offenses reporting procedures set
Memorandum of Understanding seeks to protect children, victims
On Monday, Dec. 2 New Jersey Attorney General David Samson announced that negotiations between the Division of Criminal Justice and the New Jersey Catholic Conference have resulted in the most comprehensive and precise agreement of its kind in the nation to establish specific criteria and procedures for reporting sexual offenses to county prosecutors and local police agencies.

The detailed agreement, in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding, was built on a cooperative foundation among the Attorney General’s Office, New Jersey’s 21 county prosecutors and the seven Catholic Dioceses in New Jersey — the Archdiocese of Newark; the Dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Paterson and Trenton; the Byzantine Eparchy of Passaic; and the Our Lady of Deliverance Syriac Catholic Diocese.

A MOMENT OF NOSTALGIA



The Holy Name Society of Holy Cross Parish in Harrison recently manifested its faith with a march through the neighborhood to the church for Mass and breakfast. Led by the Patriot Fife and Drum Corps, the men and boys of the parish wanted to publicly demonstrate their devotion by recreating the Holy Name Parade of bygone years. Over 100 participated.

‘Total Stewardship’ goal of new coordinator

“I want to make the Archdiocese of Newark a total Stewardship diocese,” explained Andrew Kaczynski, the Archdiocese’s new Coordinator of Stewardship.

“I am here because of my personal commitment to Stewardship. When I was offered the postion, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to deliver the Stewardship message to others,” Kaczynski added.

Daniels new Cathedral Healthcare
Donald M. Daniels has been named the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Cathedral Healthcare System.

Daniels, who succeeds the late Frank L. Fumai who died in September, will remain as Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

George Popko, Cathedral Healthcare’s Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration who had been acting president, will return to his former duties.
