Graduation, Inspiration

Spiritually strong and academically prepared, students throughout the Archdiocese of Newark reached one of the first milestones of their young lives when they took diploma in hand on graduation day.

Whether it was elementary school, high school or at the college level, their extraordinary education based on Catholic values has fortified them to advance to the next phase of their lives with absolute confidence.

As evidenced by the multitude of scholarships, academic awards and extra-curricular achievements of the Class of 2008 it was another good year in the classrooms of the Archdiocese of Newark.

To all the graduates, a hearty congratulations. You deserve it.

Saluting our Jubilarians

Featured in this issue of The Catholic Advocate is a well-deserved salute to the archdiocesan jubilarians of 2008.

God has called upon these special men and women to a lifetime of serving His people. Collectively that service amounts to literally hundreds of years. Particular kudos go to those who are celebrating 70, 65 and 60 years respectively.

What each priest, brother and Sister has accomplished is awe-inspiring. Prepared academically and spiritually for their faith journey, the depth and breadth of those ministries dramatically demonstrate a commitment not many of us can match.

In doing so, they have touched the lives of literally thousands of the faithful in good times and bad. Whether it was spiritual solace or advice, help with a difficult homework assignment or simply being an inspiration by a holy life well led, they were there when we needed them.

To each and every one of these truly holy servants of the Lord, we offer a heartfelt thank you.
