Your gift to the 2009 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal helps many and reminds us of our common membership in the Body of Christ.

CATHOLIC CHARITIES: Catholic Charities traces its roots in the Archdiocese to1903, when a group of lay Roman Catholics founded the Catholic Children's Aid Society of New Jersey. Today, Catholic Charities touches the lives of more than 100,000 individuals annually with food, clothing, shelter, special education and social programs from 25 sites around the Archdiocese.

EDUCATION:  Under the supervision of the Office of the Superintendent of Schools, some 45,000 young people at elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese engage in superior academic programs that convey the message of Christ and prepare students for life.

RETIRED PRIESTS: The priesthood is a life-long commitment.  At age 75, priests are eligible to retire, and the Archdiocese provides for their housing and medical care.  The number of retired and disabled priests continues to increase.

PARISHES: The Archdiocese of Newark brings the Good News of Christ to everyone.  Many of our parishes are in poor neighborhoods and need subsidies to continue their work.  Through the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, the Catholic faith continues to be available to all.

SEMINARIES: The Archdiocese of Newark maintains three seminaries to educate and train future priests. We are truly blessed with a large number of men studying to be our future leaders.

YOUTH MINISTRIES (CYO): The Archdiocese provides many programs designed to bring our faith to young people.  There are faith and sports activities for youth of every age from elementary school to the college.  Catholic values are the cornerstone of all CYO programs.

CHAPLAINS: Through the Archdiocesan Campus Ministry program, our chaplains at colleges and high schools provide counseling and bring Christ’s message to students.
