Statement of James Goodness, Director of Communications of the Archdiocese of Newark, On Archbishop Myers' Recent Surgery.
Early this morning, His Excellency, the Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, underwent a surgical procedure to remedy a disk problem that has been causing him discomfort over the past few months.
His surgeon has assured us that the surgery was successful and that the Archbishop now is resting comfortably. The Archbishop is grateful that his brother Don and sisters Mary and Elizabeth are with him at this time
During the coming weeks, His Grace will be recovering at his residence. At this time, the Archbishop asks for the prayers of the faithful of the Archdiocese of Newark for his full recovery and, in turn, he offers this time of healing along with his own prayers for all in the Archdiocese of Newark.
While preparing for surgery, Archbishop Myers asked me to extend the following message to all: "May these remaining days of Advent advance each of us to the joy and peace of that great event in Bethlehem and the wondrous reality that God became one of us for our salvation."
