A Look at the Prayers of the New Roman Missal

Sample Texts of the 3rd Typical Edition of the Roman Missal

On this page, you will find several samples of the finalized texts which will be included in the new Roman Missal (Sacramentary) once it is approved and published. These texts were originally posted on the US Bishops’ website www.usccb.org.

These texts have been posted for study purposes only. They have not yet been promulgated for use in the liturgy. When the entire Roman Missal is translated into English and approved, then it will be promulgated for use in the liturgy as one whole book.

Please note that these prayers may not be used under any circumstances in the liturgy today. They are posted for study purposes only.

Given the significant change in translation style, it would be very beneficial for priests, deacons and those who participate in the liturgy to familiarize themselves with these new translations.

It will be absolutely necessary for anyone, especially priests, who will be proclaiming these texts in the liturgy, to examine them prior to use in the actual celebration of the Mass. Priests should try reading them aloud to prepare for the coming changes.
