Newark Archbishop Calls for Special Intercessions at All Masses to Mark Fifth Anniversary of 9/11
The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, today called on all parishes and schools in the Archdiocese to acknowledge the fifth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks on the United States through special prayers in the General Intercessions at all masses and services this weekend and in prayer services to be held on Monday, September 11.
In making this request, Archbishop Myers said that, as we all recall the events of September 11, 2001, Catholics in the Archdiocese, and all people of faith, should use this opportunity as we gather in worship to "pray that we may grow in our ability to forgive and in our desire to work for peace locally and globally." The Archbishop also suggested that everyone pray that "our world leaders may find just ways to maintain peace and promote freedom among all people of the world."
