Labor
and Business Recognition
Martin
R. Vitale, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Twin County Grocers,
Incorporated and Harvey Whille, President of the United Food and
Commercial Workers Union, Local 1262 will be honored for their roles
in business and labor. Both will be 1997 honorees at Archbishop
Theodore E. McCarrick's Fourth Annual Labor and Business Recognition
Dinner. The dinner will be held at the Marriott at Glenpointe in
Teaneck, New Jersey on January 23, 1997 at 6:00 p.m. One Thousand
members of labor and business will be on hand for the recognition
ceremonies.
Archbishop
began the annual event to improve dialogue between the labor movement
and the business community. The Archbishop has promoted better relations
between labor and business for the past two decades. "We can only
solve the problems that confront our society if all sectors plan
new and bold initiatives to address them," he said. The Newark Archbishop
brought together labor, business and the Church in order to do just
that.
Mr. Vitale
and Mr. Whille have been chosen as this years honorees because of
their outstanding accomplishments in their respective fields and
because they represent the commitment of labor and business to the
youth of New Jersey.
The proceeds
from the dinner will go to benefit CYO/Youth Ministries in the Archdiocese
of Newark. For 56 years the Catholic Youth Organization and it's
Youth and Young Adult Ministries have been providing positive role
models, enhancing family values and inspiring self reliance and
self esteem among youngsters. In 1996, CYO/youth Ministries made
programs available to 45,000 young men and women. The diverse activities
included organized sports, summer camps, scouting, concerts, programs
for the handicapped and leadership training.
Chairman
for the Recognition Dinner is Frank M. Wade, Executive Director
and Legislative Representative of the New Jersey State Building
and Construction Trades Council, representing 125,000 members.
A native
of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Wade now resides in Colonia. He was named
a Knight of St. Gregory in December 1996 by Pope John Paul II.
