Archdiocese of Newark celebrates National Vocation Awareness Week

National Vocation Awareness Week, January 9- 14, 2000, is an opportunity to promote awareness throughout the Archdiocese of Newark of the need for more priests, brothers and sisters. During this week, and in the months following, priests and other religious will be speaking to young people within the Archdiocese.

Visiting an average of two to four Catholic high schools and parish religious education programs each week, the visiting priests, brothers and sisters will discuss following a vocation to the priesthood and religious life with the young men and women. The Vocations Office of the Archdiocese will also provide schools with materials about Vocation Awareness.

Vocations Director Fr. Richard Kelly said, "Nurturing and promoting vocations is the responsibility of every baptized Catholic. Let us pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and may our Catholic Schools continue to foster and encourage vocations in the new millennium."

The Office of Vocations of the Archdiocese of Newark exists to encourage men and women to consider vocations to the priesthood and religious life, while helping to coordinate a diocesan awareness of vocations.
