Labor and Business Combine to Help Youth

Business and labor leaders of Northern New Jersey will come together at the Archbishop's Sixth Annual Labor and Business Recognition Dinner to benefit CYO / Youth and Young Adult Ministries in the Archdiocese of Newark. The fund raiser will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday, January 19, 1999 at the Marriott at Glenpointe, Teaneck, NJ.

Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick will recognize the efforts of business and labor leaders for their commitment to the youth of the Archdiocese. Thomas P. Giblin, President of the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE) Local 68 and J. Fletcher Creamer, Sr. of J. Fletcher Creamer & Sons, Inc., will be honored.

This year's event coordinator, Marge Kinney, said, "it's the perfect venue to bring together influential business and labor leaders with the church for the benefit of our youth. Their continued support helps to keep our vision alive. The youth are our future."

Archbishop McCarrick created the event in 1994 and it has since raised more than $700,000 to support the CYO / Youth and Young Adult Ministries. These ministries have provided positive role models, enhanced family values and inspired self-reliance and self esteem for youth in the Archdiocese for the past 57 years. Programs include summer camps, scouting programs, concerts, organized sports, programs for the disabled and leadership and peer training. More than 95,000 young men, women and children participated in CYO activities in 1998.
