Newark Catholics Give $240,000 to El Salvador, India Disaster Relief

In the weeks following two separate appeals by Newark Archdiocesan Administrator Bishop Paul G. Bootkoski, Catholics in the Archdiocese of Newark have contributed $240,000 to aid victims of natural disasters in El Salvador and India.

The donations have been forwarded to Catholic Relief Services for use in that organization's efforts to provide food, temporary shelter, medical and hygiene assistance, counseling and skills training to the more than 2 million people whose lives were disrupted by earthquakes that rocked both countries earlier this year.

"The people of the Church of Newark have always responded generously at times like this with their prayers, empathy and especially their contributions," said Bishop Bootkoski. "Our partnership with Catholic Relief Services is helping the people of India and El Salvador rebuild their lives as well as their homes."
