Archdiocese of Newark Faculty Participates in the 99th Annual NCEA Conference
The Archdiocese of Newark, in cooperation with the Dioceses of Camden, Metuchen, Paterson and Trenton, will host the 99th Annual National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) Conference, April 2-5 2002, in Atlantic City. Not only will Archdiocesan faculty act as host, but also they will be celebrating Mass, receiving awards and presenting workshops.

Cardinal Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop of Washington and former Archbishop of Newark, will open the convention’s general session, Tuesday, April 2. The Bishops of New Jersey will concelebrate the opening Mass with the Most Rev. John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, the main celebrant at the Mass.

Sr. Dominica Rocchio, S.C., Secretary for Education and Superintendent of School for the Archdiocese of Newark, will be honored for a lifetime in education when she receives the 2002 F. Sadlier Dinger Award. Every year, the award is presented at the Convention to an “outstanding leader” in Catholic education. Of the honor, Sr. Rocchio said she was “totally surprised” about her selection as this year’s recipient.

Patricia Braun, Schools Marketing Director, will present The Power of Print on Thursday, April 4. The workshop will focus on the presentation of strategic, integrated use of print materials to establish identity, create image, increase recognition, maximize message effectiveness and optimize audience delivery.

As Chair of the Northeast Marketing Coalition, Braun will also co-present Marketing Across Boundaries with Nora Murphy, Schools Marketing Director for the Archdiocese of New York on Wednesday, April 3, featuring a half-hour "show and tell" of possibilities that became realities from the Coalition. The session will also include a keynote Presentation by Eugene M. Kail of Kail & Associates, Pittsburgh, entitled Catholic Schools: Marketing Our Success – the "why" of marketing is basic: good education and good evangelization and offer practical suggestions on the "how".

"The New Jersey Catholic School Marketing Council (NJCSMC) is extremely pleased to have helped spearhead NCEA's recognition of Marketing as a critical, integral, vital element for school success, and to have developed the Roster of Topics and Speakers for the inclusion of Marketing as a full partner, with 10 sessions, within NCEA's Development Strand in Atlantic City. I am confident that our assigned Marketing ‘Home Base’ will be of great benefit with its presentations, displays, catalogue of information and sample materials for take away. NJCSMC has been in the forefront of marketing Catholic Schools over the last decade; thus, it is particularly poignant that this Marketing feature is debuting in our home state,” said Braun.

Nancy Sardone, Seton Hall University Assistant Professor in the College of Education will also present a workshop, Using the Web as a Marketing Tool, on Thursday, April 4.
