Archbishop Calls on Parishioners to Pray for Peace
All Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese of Newark are being asked by Archbishop John J. Myers to join Catholic churches around the world in Pope John Paul II’s request for "heartfelt prayers" for peace in the Middle East.

In a letter to pastors, Archbishop Myers noted that the Holy Father has asked that April 7, "Divine Mercy Sunday," be a time to pray that God intervene "with those who have the responsibility and power to take the necessary steps, even if costly, to move the conflicting sides toward agreement which would be just and dignified for all" in the Middle East.

“In this dramatic hour, he asks that Christians address ‘heartfelt prayer’ to God who alone is the source of peace. May I ask that you and your parish remember this intention especially on this Sunday and in the weeks ahead,” wrote Archbishop Myers.

The Sunday after Easter is celebrated as "Divine Mercy Sunday" and many parishes in the four counties of the Archdiocese- Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union- have scheduled prayer services.
