

Holy Week at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart Holy Week marks the beginning of the Easter celebration in the Catholic Church, starting with Palm Sunday, the commemoration of Jesus' triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. In the Archdiocese of Newark, the liturgical representation of the historical events of Holy Week are celebrated through various Liturgies. On Good Friday, at the conclusion of the Way of the Cross at 8 p.m. in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick will lead intercessory prayers using the text of the 'Jubilee Ceremony of Pardon' prayed by Pope John Paul II during Mass in St. Peter's Basilica, Rome, on the First Sunday of Lent, March 12, 2000.
