Archdiocesan
Young Adult Council to Celebrate Mass
The Young
Adult Council for the Archdiocese of Newark will celebrate a special
Mass and reception for young adults (18-39) at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday,
April 19, 1998, in the Sacred Heart Chapel at the Archdiocesan Youth
Center in Kearny.
The Young
Adult Mass will be the first of its kind since the creation of the
Young Adult Council in December 1997. Marc Cregan, director of Young
Adult Ministry since October and facilitator of the Council, said
that he hopes the event will spark more interest in activities for
Catholic young adults in the Archdiocese.
"This
event will be the first of many," Cregan said. "We also have a retreat
scheduled in May and a social picnic in July or August. The purpose
of having young adult ministry is to help young adults examine their
lives, relationships, and careers on a deeper, more spiritual level.
Many young adults feel disassociated with the Church, that there
aren't ways for them to express themselves spiritually. My hope
is that these events and the efforts of the (Young Adult) Council
will help renew their relationship with the Church and bring them
closer to God."
The Mass
will be led by the Rev. Raymond Rodrigue of Sacred Heart Parish
in Lyndhurst. The Mass and reception will be free of charge. A voluntary
collection will be taken to help defray the costs of this and future
events.
