Archdiocese of Newark to Sponsor Annual Youth Retreat

For the past three years, hundreds of young adults from the Archdiocese of Newark and the surrounding dioceses have attended the Rejoice youth prayer festivals. This yearŐs festival, Rejoice 2001, is expected to attract up to 1000 young adults, ages 15-30. Hosted at the Archdiocesan Youth Center, 499 Belgrove Dr., Kearny, NJ, the festival will be held the weekend of May 11- 13.

Master of Ceremony Michael Manhardt, a New Jersey native who serves as the Director of Youth Ministry in the Diocese of the Virgin Islands, will lead the activity-filled weekend. A graduate from the University of Steubenville, he has extensive experience working with youth and young adults. He will lead the weekend because of his experience with young people and his familiarity with the prayer festival, which will help create an atmosphere that will be positive, exciting and sometimes serious as the participants deeply experience GodŐs love.

Throughout the weekend, dynamic speakers will present topics relevant to the participantsŐ lives. Workshops following the talks will give the young adults an opportunity to discuss the issues with their peers. Attendants will participate in daily prayer, the Eucharist and contemporary Christian music. On Saturday, an International Rosary, which incorporates not only the universality of the church, but also the diversity of the Archdiocese, will be prayed in various languages.

"The young people who decide to participate in this event will not be disappointed. During the weekend, they will be captivated by the inspiring talks, which will bring them to a greater awareness of God's love. They'll have a great time with old friends and new, while discussing important issues. They'll have a lot of laughs and a lot of fun!" said Fr. Richard Corbett, Acting Executive Director of the Office of CYO Youth and Young Adult Ministries.

Any youth and young adult who wishes to participate is invited to register to attend Rejoice 2001. Space is limited on a first come basis, and cost of registration, which includes accommodations and food, is $30.
