James
C. Kellogg to be Honored for "Giving Back"
The
president of the Community Foundation of New Jersey, James C. Kellogg,
will be honored at the 13th Annual Scholarship Dinner benefiting
the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday,
May 1, 1997 at the Mayfair Farms in West Orange. Proceeds from the
dinner will fund scholarships for needy children who attend Catholic
schools in Essex, Hudson, Union, and Bergen Counties.
Kellogg
will receive the Vitae Discimus Award in recognition of his leadership
in motivating various philanthropic organizations to become involved
with inner-city education, among them the J.C. Kellogg Foundation.
Kellogg serves as vice president and treasurer of the J.C. Kellogg
Foundation that established a major scholarship fund for needy children
attending Catholic schools in Elizabeth, his hometown.
The
Director of the Scholarship Fund for Inner City Children, Kevin
P. Moriarty, said that all scholarships are funded through donations.
Moriarty continued, saying, that Kellogg and others like him allow
Catholic schools to educate students from all backgrounds while
giving back to the community.
The
Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children has provided 18,000 scholarships
for poor children, and it has distributed $5.3 million since 1983.
