Outstanding
Teachers Recognized by Archdiocese
The Archdiocese
of Newark will honor 66 teachers from throughout Essex, Hudson,
Union and Bergen Counties at its Eighth Annual Teacher Recognition
Dinner at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at the Sheraton
Meadowlands Hotel, East Rutherford.
Archbishop
Theodore E. McCarrick will present certificates of honor, a crystal
apple, and a monetary award to each teacher. Teachers are nominated
by their peers on the local level for outstanding dedication and
service. An Archdiocesan Committee then selects the dinner's honorees.
Deputy
Superintendent of Schools and the Chair of the Teacher Recognition
Program, Sister Patricia Butler, S.C., said the event is a highpoint
in the career of the Catholic educators. "It affords the Archdiocese
the opportunity to show its appreciation for their dedication and
effort."
"In honoring
these teachers we honor all the teachers of the Archdiocese who
replicate their fine work in educating Catholic school children,"
Sr. Butler added.
The awards
are made possible by the Catholic Education Endowment Board of the
Archdiocesan "Continue the Mission Campaign," which has provided
the awards since 1992. More than 400 teachers have been recognized
over the past eight years.
