Statement by The Most Reverend Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop of Newark, on the Death of John Cardinal O'Connor, Archbishop of New York John O'Connor was one of the truly outstanding leaders of the Catholic Church in our country and, indeed, in the world. He was a great example of courage and vision who made an extraordinary contribution to our age and our society. I offer my condolences and those of the Church of Newark to our sisters and brothers across the river. .
