Students Run for Education Were very excited about the Relays which will bring together over 30 Catholic schools in one evening of spirited competition at the magnificent Kean Alumni Stadium. I cant think of a better cause than kids running to raise money so that less fortunate children can receive a quality, value-based education, said Relay Meet Director and Head Track Coach at Holy Trinity Interparochial School, Westfield, Bill Fitzpatrick. Kids Running for Kids will feature 4 x 100-meter relay competitions for boys and girls from third through eighth grades as well as invitational 1600 and 800-meter races for boys and girls. The meet will begin with all-comers fun runs by grade. Kevin Moriarty, Executive Director of the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children, said, The Scholarship Fund is proud to be associated with the Relays. We expect a strong turnout from many of the inner-city schools in Newark, Elizabeth and Jersey City who most benefit directly from the Funds work. We also expect significant participation from suburban schools that wish to compete in a terrific event while helping needy children. This Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children provides scholarships for needy children who attend Catholic and private elementary and secondary schools in Essex, Hudson, Bergen, and Union counties. The Fund is neither a religious nor a sectarian organization, more than half of the scholarship recipients are non-Catholic. The Scholarship Fund, operational since 1983, awards over $2.2 million in assistance to over 2,000 recipients each year.
