Archdiocese of Newark to sponsor annual youth retreat For the past two years, hundreds of young adults from the Archdiocese of Newark and surrounding dioceses have attended Rejoice 2000, a youth prayer festival. This year's festival, to be held June 2- 4, 2000 at Seton Hall University, South Orange Avenue, South Orange, is expected to attract up to 1000 young adults, ages 15-30. Masters of Ceremony Alex Kubic, a musician who has long been involved in Youth Ministry, and Caroline Gambale, the Director of Youth Ministry for the Archdiocese, will lead the activity-filled weekend. The atmosphere promises to be positive, exciting and sometimes serious as the participants deeply experience God's love.Attendants will participate in daily prayer, the Eucharist and contemporary Christian music. On Saturday, an International Rosary will be prayed in various languages. Event co-coordinator Fr. Richard Corbett explains, "The International Rosary incorporates not only the universality of the church, but the diversity of our own Archdiocese." Throughout the weekend, dynamic speakers will present topics relevant to the participants' lives. Workshops following the talks will give the young adults an opportunity to discuss the issues with their peers. Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick will preside and preach at the closing day Mass. Following the Mass, participants will offer spontaneous testimony regarding their experiences over the weekend. In commenting on this year's Rejoice 2000 event, Archbishop McCarrick said, "Our Holy Father, John Paul II expressed his wish that this Great Jubilee would be an 'Intensely Eucharistic Year.' It is my hope that the Holy Father's desire may become a reality for all the young people of this Archdiocese, and in a special way for the young, who for many of us present a special challenge for evangelization." Any young adult who wishes to participate is invited to register to attend Rejoice 2000. For more information, please call (201) 617-4408, or e-mail r2k3@juno.com.
