Archdiocese
Recognizes Outstanding Teachers
The Archdiocese
of Newark will honor 68 teachers from throughout Essex, Hudson,
Union and Bergen Counties at its Seventh Annual Teacher Recognition
Dinner at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 1998 at the Sheraton Meadowlands
Hotel, East Rutherford. Over 1,000 people are expected to attend
the annual event.
Bishop
Paul G. Bootkoski will present certificates of honor, a crystal
apple, and a monetary award to each teacher. Teachers are nominated
by their peers on the local level for their outstanding dedication
and service. An Archdiocesan Committee then selects the Dinner's
honorees.
Deputy
Superintendent of Schools and the Chair of the Teacher Recognition
Program, Sister Patricia Butler, S.C., said the event is a highpoint
in the career of the Catholic educators. "It affords the Archdiocese
the opportunity to show its appreciation for their dedication and
effort."
"These
teachers are representative of the many fine teachers of the Archdiocese,"
Sr. Butler added.
The awards
are made possible by the Catholic Education Endowment Board of the
Archdiocesan "Continue the Mission Campaign," which has provided
the awards since 1991. Over 400 teachers have been recognized over
the past seven years.
