Archbishop John J. Myers Ordains 10
The Most Rev. John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, will ordain ten men to the priesthood at 10 a.m. on Saturday May 25, 2002 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge St., Newark. The Newark Archdiocese is again among the largest ordination classes in the country.

Six of the newly ordained priests attended Immaculate Conception Seminary on Seton Hall University's South Orange campus. The remaining four attended Redemptoris Mater, the Archdiocese's missionary Seminary in Kearny that provides formation to many foreign-born seminarians. Of the ten men to be ordained in the Archdiocese of Newark this year, six are foreign born. Their homes include Columbia, Honduras, Italy, Nicaragua, Peru, and Spain, a diversity that mirrors the ethnic and national diversity of the Archdiocese’s four counties- Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union.

In commenting on this year’s ordinands, The Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, said, “This local Church of Newark and the Universal Church together are blessed through the faith and commitment that these men give us today.

“They join the order of the ordained priesthood of our Lord, Jesus Christ from all walks of life and with many different experiences. At a time when the Church faces a grave challenge, the Church welcomes them, knowing that their love of God and His people, will strengthen her.”

Many of the new priests will celebrate their first Mass the following day, Sunday, May 26, 2001 in churches throughout the Archdiocese. The newly ordained priests will receive their parish assignments in June.
