Newark
Bishop Named to Head Camden Diocese
Archbishop
McCarrick Applauds Appointment
(Newark,
NJ) Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick applauded the appointment today
of Newark Auxiliary Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio as Bishop of the
Diocese of Camden, NJ by Pope John Paul II. The Archbishop released
the following statement regarding the appointment of Bishop DiMarzio.
"The appointment
of Bishop Nicholas A. DiMarzio as Bishop of Camden is, of course,
a great joy for me and the Presbyterate of the Church of Newark.
Bishop DiMarzio is an outstanding priest and bishop and has served
with great skill and generosity both here in the Archdiocese and
in the national office of our Bishops Conference.
"In a
personal sense for me his promotion is bitter-sweet, since I will
miss him very much. Not only in his responsibility as Regional Bishop
for Essex County and Vicar for Human Services has he been an enormous
support, but in his guidance of Cathedral Healthcare System he has
played a unique role in guaranteeing the continuing Catholic Health
Care Apostolate in this area.
"The Church
of Camden is very fortunate to have him as their new Bishop and
Newark is blessed that another of our sons is given this challenging
new responsibility.
"Our prayers
and gratitude go with him."
