of Statement by The Most Reverend Dominic A. Marconi, DD As Auxiliary Bishop, Archdiocese of Newark I am deeply grateful to Pope John Paul II who, with the support and encourage of Archbishop Myers, has accepted my resignation as an active Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Newark. As I explained to the Holy Father and the Archbishop, I hope to continue to be active in the pastoral needs of the people of the Archdiocese, free of meetings and paperwork. These past 26 years as Auxiliary Bishop and Regional Bishop of Union County have been a special gift and grace for me. I has been my privilege during the tenure of Archbishop Peter Gerety, who requested my appointment as Auxiliary Bishop, as well as in the years under Cardinal Theodore McCarricks leadership and during this past year with Archbishop John Myers, to have played a vital role in the implementation of the Documents of Vatican II. I am also indebted to the dedicated and hard-working priests of the Archdiocese, especially of Union County, who have been so supportive and cooperative in my responsibilities as an Auxiliary Bishop. In addition, I stand in awe and admiration of our many talented and generous laity and religious who, together with their pastoral leaders and parish staffs, have made their faith communities caring, just and prayerful. Finally, I ask the prayers of all that God may continue to bless me with good health so that I will be able to serve the people of this great Archdiocese in whatever capacity I can.
