Archbishop
Welcomes New Bishop for Metuchen Diocese
Archbishop
Theodore E. McCarrick of Newark, the founding Bishop of the Diocese
of Metuchen, made the following statement regarding the appointment
by the Holy Father of a new Bishop of Metuchen.
"In choosing
Bishop Elect Vincent Breen to serve the Diocese of Metuchen as the
third bishop, the Holy Father has chosen a wise and gracious shepherd
for this beloved Church.
"In his
years of extraordinary leadership in the Apostolate of Education,
he has shown himself as a man of courage and dedication, with a
deeply pastoral heart and an unflinching devotion to the rights
of families and the needs of the poor.
"Metuchen
will be blessed by his warmth and priestly simplicity. He will be
a good shepherd and a fitting successor to the holy and dedicated
man of God who has served with such zeal and love as Metuchen's
second bishop.
"I am
especially honored and touched by his invitation to ordain him to
the episcopacy on the Feast of the Birthday of Our Lady, who as
Queen of the Church of Metuchen is the principal patron of that
local church.
"I look
forward to working with Bishop Breen in the service for the people
of New Jersey."
