Archdiocese Sponsors Pilgrimage to Rome for Beatification Ceremony

The Archdiocese of Newark's pilgrimage to Rome for the beatification of Pope John XXIII and others will depart from Newark on August 29, 2000 and return September 6, 2000.

Also scheduled for beatification with Pope John XXIII on September 3, 2000 are Pope Pius IX, Archbishop Thomas Reggio, William Joseph Chaminade, and Columba Marmion.

In the process for the canonization of a saint, beatification is the next to the last step in becoming a saint. Beatification is performed by the Pope after a person's life, writings and teachings have been examined and found to contain nothing contrary to the teachings of the Church.

During the pilgrimage guests will stay at the Olympic Hotel, a six minute walk from St. Peter's. The trip will also include excursions to Subiaco, Assisi and Pompeii. Cost per person starts at $2,259.

For details and/or reservation forms contact Pilgrimage Coordinator Rev. Msgr. Richard Groncki at (973)484-4600.
