Statement of Bishop Frank J. Rodimer
Bishop Rodimer Welcomes Archbishop Myers

In the name of Newark's neighboring and suffragan Diocese of Paterson, I extend a warm welcome to Archbishop John Myers on his appointment by Pope John II, to be the Shepherd of this great and thriving Metropolitan See.
Illinois may seem far away from New Jersey, but I'm sure our new Archbishop well soon feel right at home as he as he becomes acquainted with the gifted bishops, priests and deacons, devoted religious and zealous lay people of Newark. He brings with him his own great measure of gifts, devotion and zeal so we can't help but feel that this wedding is the start of something big.
"Duc in altum," "Move out into the deep!" - the command of Jesus to Peter and of Peter's Successor to Newark as he makes a new beginning is as exciting as it is promising. Archbishop Myers, I wish you well and assure you of my collaboration, especially as we serve the Church in New Jersey together.
