New Director in the Hispanic Apostolate at the Archdiocese of Newark

Maricela Quintana of Jersey City has been named the Director of the Hispanic Apostolate at the Archdiocese of Newark. As Director she is responsible for the development of a common vision through Parish Pastoral plans for Hispanic Ministry and to create a greater awareness of hispanic cultures.

Ms. Quintana joined the Archdiocese as an Administrative Assistant in the Hispanic Apostolate Office. She was promoted to Office Manager in April of 1992, and named Associate Director in 1995.

Quintana says that her goal, and that of the Hispanic Apostolate is to "be a bridge builder and work towards unity among the diversity of our church."

Quintana received an accounting degree from the University of Puerto Rico in 1976. She then came to the United States and worked in the Accounting Department of the BASF Corporation before coming to work at the Archdiocese.

She holds a certification in Catechetical Ministry from Seton Hall Unversity and is a Consecrated Lay Misionary of the Missionary Cenacle Apostolate, and Vice President of the National Catholic Association of Diocesan Directors for Hispanic Ministry. She also serves on the National Catholic Evangelization Board.

The Hispanic Apostolate Office at the Archdiocese serves over half a million hispanics in the four Northern New Jersey counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union.
