International Choir Visits Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart

Musical aficionados will once again fill the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Newark, this time to enjoy internationally recognized sacred music. The Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Choir, UK, will join the Cathedral Choir of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart to celebrate noon Mass on Sunday, August 8, 1999.

In their first American tour, the Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral Choir will provide musical accompaniment throughout the Mass and will follow with a brief recital of sacred music.

"It will be exciting to hear the melodic sounds of a uniquely composed choir", says John J. Miller, Music Director and Organist at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart. The choir consists of 22 boys and 16 choir men keeping with the traditional all male composition of choirs in England.

The Liverpool Choir, under the direction of Mervyn Cousins, will conclude its tour with this last performance at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart before returning to the UK. The choir's wide repertoire includes music of all periods, reflecting the great heritage of Catholic music from Gregorian Chant to present day.

For more information about this performance call the Cathedral Music Office at 973-484-2400.
