Archdiocese Calls on Parishes to Set Example During Drought In light of the current drought conditions and resulting shortage of water in the state of New Jersey, Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick today called upon all parishes and institutions within the Archdiocese of Newark to take the lead in their local communities to adhere to water restrictions. In a letter to the pastors of the 236 parishes within the Archdiocese, the Archbishop said, "First, it is important that we give good example in the preservation of the water supply and follow exactly the norms -- and the recommendations -- of the public authorities in the conservation of water in all Catholic facilities in these four counties." Second, I ask you to include a petition for rain in the Prayer of the Faithful beginning this Sunday, August 8, until further notice. "Thank you for your leadership in this critical situation. Let us pray for those who are being hurt in any way by this difficult weather crisis." The Archdiocese of Newark comprises the four counties of Bergen, Essex, Hudson and Union in New Jersey.
