
Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Newark to Mark One Year Anniversary of September 11 Parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Newark have made plans to mark the one year anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on America. Planned are a variety of events including Memorial Masses, interfaith services, prayer services, community-wide commemorations, recitation of the Rosary, candle vigils and Holy Hours. County - Church of the Presentation, Upper Saddle River, will hold an Interfaith Prayer Service on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. For additional information call (201)327-1313 ext 30. - Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Park Ridge, will celebrate Mass on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. - St. Therese of Lisieux Parish, Creskill, will celebrate a Mass on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. - The Ridgefield Clergy Association will hold a Memorial Service on Sept. 15 at 4 p.m. at St. Matthew's Parish. - St. Andrew's Parish, Westwood, will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. followed by a concert by the Parish Music Ministry of selections appropriate for healing and renewal. - St. Margaret of Cortona Parish, Little Ferry and Moonachie, will celebrate a Candlelight Mass at 8 p.m. on Sept. 11. - St. Nicholas Parish, Palisades Park, will have a Holy Hour of Adoration on Sept. 11 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. All are invited. At 8:46 a.m., the outdoor Bell Tower will be tolled; Mass will be celebrated as usual at 9 a.m. followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 4 p.m.; an Evening Prayer Service will be held at 4 p.m. with a special Mass scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Those who died at the World Trade Center will be remembered during a service of light. - Immaculate Conception Parish, Norwood, has an all-day program set for Sept. 11. At 8 a.m. Mass will be celebrated and there will be Lighting of Vigil Candles followed by recitation of the Rosary at 8:40 a.m. From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., there will be a Solemn Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament followed by a prayer service, benediction and extinguishing of the vigil candles. - Church of the Assumption, Emerson, will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. - St. John Parish, Hillsdale, will celebrate Mass on Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Tenafly, has scheduled Nine Days to 9/11-- Looking Back and Moving Forward which will be followed by a Mass of Remembrance at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 11. The nine days will begin and end with a Novena. As part of the looking back portion of the observance, parishioners will write down remembrances of Sept. 11 which will become part of the parish archives. A prayer for peace will be recited each day. - Our Lady of the Visitation Parish, Paramus, will celebrate a special Mass at 10 a.m. followed by planting of a dogwood tree to mark the occasion. - St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Ridgefield Park, on Sept. 11 will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 6:30 p.m. followed by a village-wide prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at Veteran's Park. - The Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, Wallington, will host "An Ecumenical Prayer Service for America," on Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 7:30 p.m. in conjunction with Rev. Doctor Peter H. Carey, Jr. of the Wallington Presbyterian Church; Rev. Father Grzegorz Mludzik of the Polish National Catholic Church of Transfiguration; Very Rev. Canon Felix R. County - Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, West Orange, will offer a Vigil Mass of Remembrance and Hope on Sept, 10 at 7:30 p.m. Remembered will be the families of those killed in the attack. There will be private prayer in front of the Blessed Sacrament from 8:48 a.m. to 7 p.m., when there will be a closing prayer service, recitation of the Sorrowful Mysteries and Benediction. - Holy Family Parish, Nutley, will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Sept. 12 at 7:30 p.m. All area uniformed personnel will be honored, establishing a tradition the parish plans to continue annually. On Sept. 8 at 7:30 p.m. there will be a choir concert and service of dedication of the new Peace of Christ carillon dedicated to two members of the parish killed at the World Trade Center on Sept. 11. On display will be a cross cut from a beam of the World Trade Center. On Sept. 11 there will be a prayer service at 8:46 a.m. in which the school children will participate. At 8 p.m. there will be a prayer service featuring a special invitation to parish children who attend public school. - St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Cedar Grove, will celebrate a Memorial Mass at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 10. - St. Antoninus Parish, Newark, will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. - Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, South Orange, will celebrate an 8:30 a.m. Mass on Sept. 11 for deceased parish victims and all victims. County - St. Paul of the Cross Parish, Jersey City, will be open all day on Sept. 11 and celebrate Mass at 7:30 p.m. - St. John Nepomucene Parish, Guttenberg, will hold a prayer service for the school children at 10 a.m. and a Mass at 7 p.m. - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Jersey City, on Sept. 11 will have a Holy Hour with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 7 p.m. concluding with a bilingual (English/Spanish) evening prayer. - St. Stephen Parish, Kearny, has scheduled special Masses and services for Sept. 11. Masses will be celebrated at 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. for the school children. There will be a townwide Interfaith Service at 7 p.m. which will include the blessing of a cross fashioned from a steel beam from the World Trade Center. A Sept. 11 Remembrance Garden, planted by Eagle Scout Alex Alvarez, will be dedicated. The interfaith service will be in the lower church. - Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish, Jersey City, will be open Sept. 11 from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. for private prayer and reflection. There will be a Mass of Remembrance at 7:30 a.m.; Ringing of Bells and Prayer Service at 10:25 a.m.; Mass of Remembrance at 12:30 p.m.; Rosary for Peace at 4 p.m.; and a Sung Evening Prayer of Remembrance at 7:30 p.m. - Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Bayonne, will hold a Day of Prayer and Reflection on Sept. 11 beginning with the tolling of the church bells at 8:45, 9:06 and 10:29 a.m. Special prayers for peace and for those lost in the tragedy will be remembered at all the Masses. Following the noon Mass, there will be an Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament until 7 p.m. During the exposition beginning at 2 p.m. and at every hour and half hour afterwards, a Rosary Novena for Peace will begun. remain open from 7:30 a.m. until 8 p.m. The Blessed Sacrament will
be exposed for adoration after the 8 a.m., 12:10 and 6 p.m. Masses
when there will be Benediction. There will be a special Memorial
Mass in Spanish at 7 p.m. - St. Teresa of Avila Parish, Summit, will celebrate a Mass of Remembrance on Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. with the church remaining open until 11 p.m. Regularly scheduled Masses will be celebrated Sept. 11 with the church again remaining open until 11 p.m. A community wide commemoration, From Tragedy to Hope, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Village Green or at St. Teresa's in case of inclement weather at 7:30 p.m. - Holy Family Parish, Linden, will celebrate a Mass on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. in remembrance of those who lost their lives last Sept. 11 and for world peace. - St. Elizabeth of Hungary Parish and the City of Linden will co-host a special Interdenominational Prayer Vigil on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the church. For additional information call (908)486-2514. - Our Lady of Peace Parish, New Providence, will host an Ecumenical Christian Service of Remembrance on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. The service is sponsored by the New Providence/Berkeley Heights Clergy Association. - Christ the King Church, Hillside, is planning a special Memorial Service and Procession for the Anniversary of Sept. 11. On Sept. 10 at 7:00 p.m., parishioners will meet at Christ the King's school gymnasium for a silent candle procession. The procession will consist of a large wooden cross being carried by parish members, with the American Flag and the Papal flag on either side at the head of the Cross; they will be flanked by the Knights of Columbus. There will be a banner commemorating the Sept. 11 tragedy followed by the Hillside firefighters and police, priests and parishioners. A Memorial Service will then take place at the Church, followed by a Mass.

of September 11 at 8:00 a.m. in English and at 7:00 p.m. in Spanish.
