Archdiocese Schedules Special Mass to Remember Victims, Comfort Families In the aftermath of the tragedy of Tuesdays attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, the Archdiocese of Newark will hold a special mass at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16, at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. The mass, to be concelebrated by The Most Reverend Paul G. Bootkoski, VG, Administrator of the Archdiocese, and the auxiliary bishops of the Archdiocese, will remember the victims of the attacks, offer support to their families and neighbors, acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of the men and women who have undertaken the massive rescue effort, and pray for the Lords guidance and wisdom for our nations leaders in the days ahead. "No parish in the Archdiocese was untouched by the enormity of the tragedy," Bishop Bootkoski stated. " Now more than ever, we are called to bring a sense of community and consolation, and to help soothe the grief of our friends and neighbors, some of whom are still unsure of the fate of their loved ones." Parishioners of all 235 parishes of the Archdiocese are invited to attend as a visible demonstration of their Catholic faith and desire to be healers for those who suffer. In addition, Bishop Bootkoski has asked all pastors and school principals in the Archdiocese to schedule prayer services or votive masses to echo the theme of this Sundays special mass.
