Fund Names Three New Trustees
The Scholarship
Fund for Inner-City Children of the Archdiocese of Newark has elected
three new members to its Board of Trustees. The new trustees are
Nancy Kernan Yewaisis, Scotch Plains, Vincent J. Lewis, Saddle River,
and Edward J. Barrone, Avon.
Nancy
Yewaisis, appointed in April, is retired with vast experience in
community relations and government. As Special Assistant to the
Governor, 1990-1994, she served as Director of the Governor's School,
Director of the Governor's Summer Program, Director of the Governor's
Internship Program, Director of the Governor's Fellow's Program
and as Advisor to the Chief Council to the Governor.
"I look
forward to becoming very involved in this committee because it provides
me the opportunity to help inner city children and help open doors
to their future," said Yewaisis of her appointment.
Edward
Barrone, appointed in July, is the General Attorney for Public Service
Electric and Gas. He held various positions within Public Service
and its affiliated companies, including Vice President - Law, Public
Service Resources Manager - Governmental Affairs; and Vice President-
Law, Transport of New Jersey. He has also served as Maplewood Court
Judge and as member of the Maplewood Township Committee.
Vincent
J. Lewis, also appointed in July, is Senior Vice President, Branch
Manager for Legg Mason Wood Walker, INC. He is a member of the National
Security Traders Association, Security Industry Association and
Security Traders Association of New York. Mr. Lewis is Director
of the Atmos Energy Corporation, Dallas, Texas. His civic duties
include membership in the Seton Hall University Chancellor's Advisory
Council, the Valley Hospital Foundation and serving on the Pension
Board of the Archdiocese of Newark.
The Board
of Trustees, which now has 36 members, is comprised of "people with
concerns for the education of poor children and whom want to make
Catholic Education available to them," said Kevin Moriarity Executive
Director for the Scholarship Fund.
The Scholarship
Fund for Inner-City Children provides scholarships for needy children
that attend schools in Essex, Hudson, Union, and Bergen Counties.
It also administers special programs in Newark, Jersey City and
Elizabeth that provide scholarships to students attending any private
schools.
Since
its inception in 1983, the Inner-City Scholarship Fund has funded
about 21,000 scholarships and has distributed more than $7.2 million.
During the 1999-2000 school year, it will distribute $2.3 million
to 2,700 students. The Fund depends on contributions from private
and public donations for its scholarships. The Scholarship Fund
is sponsored by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark, but it
does not limit its recipients to members of the Catholic faith.
More than half of the scholarship recipients are not Catholic.

Edward
J. Borrone
Edward J.
Borrone is the General Attorney for Public Service Electric and Gas
Company. He has held several positions within Public Service and affiliated
companies, including Vice-President-Law, Public Service Resources
Corporation; Division Manager, Customer and Marketing Services; General
Manager, Governmental Affairs; and Vice-President-Law, Transport of
New Jersey.
Mr. Borrone
served as Maplewood Court Judge for nine years and served as member
of the Maplewood Township Committee for 13 years. He is a member
of the Board of Directors of Golden eagle Sales Corporation of New
York and has served on the Advisory Council of the Summit Trust
Company.
He has
served as Vice Chair on the Board of Directors of NJ Transit and
chaired the New Jersey Crippled Children's Commission. He is a former
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Hospital Center at Orange.
Mr. Borrone
holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Seton Hall University School
of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Peter's College.
He is a member of the New Jersey State and Essex County Bar Associations.
Mr. Borrone
is married with two children and resides in Avon, NJ.
Nancy
Kernan Yewaisis
Nancy Kernan
Yewaisis is a retired community relations liaison with diverse government,
community and political experience.
She served
as Special Assistant to the Governor, 1990-1994, fulfilling responsibilities
as Director of the Governor's School, Director of the Governor's
Summer Employment Program, Director of the Governor's Summer Internship
Program, Director of the Governor's Fellows Program and Advisor
to the Chief Council to the Governor Mrs. Yewaisis also served as
Deputy Director- Finance Office in the Florio for Governor Campaign.
She assisted in establishing and implementing a statewide fund raising
strategy and served as coordinator of the Governor's pre-inaugural
events.
Mrs. Yewaisis
is a member of the NJ Board of Directors for the Governor's School,
a member of Raphael's Life House Board of Directors and is a member
of St. Peter's College Board of Regents. From 1977-1981, she served
as a member of the NJ Cemetery Board. She assisted Hudson County
in establishing the first "Boarder Baby" residence. She was selected
to the Who's Who of American Women in 1991.
Mrs. Yewaisis
holds Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Montclair
Sate College. She resides in Scotch Plains, NJ.
Vincent
J. Lewis
Vincent
J. Lewis, a resident of Saddle River, is Senior Vice-President and
Branch Manager for Legg Mason Wood Walker Inc.
Mr. Lewis
is Director of the Atmos Energy Corporation, Dallas, Texas. He is
a member of the National Security Traders Association, the Security
Industry Association and the Security Traders Association of New
York. He serves on the Pension Board of the Archdiocese of Newark
and is involved with the Knight of the Equestrian of the Holy Sepulchre
of Jerusalem, Seton Hall University Chancellor's Advisory Council
and the Valley Hospital Foundation.
Mr. Lewis
holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Georgetown University.
He is married with one child and resides in Saddle River, NJ.
