Office of Black Catholic Affairs to Host Book Signing for A Mission for Justice Author
The Archdiocese of Newark Office of Black Catholic Affairs will host a book signing for Mary A. Ward, author of A Mission for Justice, Wednesday, October 9, at 7 p.m. in the Archdiocesan Center Auditorium, 171 Clifton Ave., Newark. A history of the first African-American Catholic Church in Newark, the book details the founding and growth of Queen of Angels Church.

A parishioner at Queen of Angels and an adjunct assistant professor of religion at Fordham University, Ward began her study into the parish’s history to add a local case study to “the overall history of the African American religion and particularly to the African American Catholic experience.” Queen of Angels’ history was compiled through interviews with parish staff and members and archived documents and photos.

“It is an honor to be part of such a wonderful event. It is truly wonderful to have a document which chronicles the history of Black Catholic in the Archdiocese of Newark,” said Tracey Battles, Director of Black Catholic Affairs.

Copies of A Mission for Justice will be available for $15 at the signing. For more information, please contact the Office of Black Catholic Affairs at (973) 497-4340.
