New
Jersey Dioceses Seek to Repair the Breach The theme of the day, "Unity Through Diversity," focuses on the teachings of the Catholic Church regarding issues of discrimination pertaining to racism, sexism, ageism, homophobia, xenophobia, economic injustice and individuals with disabilities. The day will begin with opening prayers led by the Most Rev. John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, to be followed by a celebration heralding the social teachings of the Church through prayer, song and testimony. Afternoon breakout sessions will feature a brief presentation on the teachings of the Church concerning a specific justice issue and a testimony by someone who has been a victim of that form of discrimination. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and hear more about the testifiers experience related to the issue. Each breakout session will challenge participants to respond to the question - What actions can be taken to address this injustice? High school aged youths are invited to participate in the conference Youth Track, where they will discuss issues like sweatshops and child labor, the death penalty, and environmental justice. The Youth Track is designed to provide an opportunity for young people to grow in faith, learn how they can be advocates and activists for justice, and build relationships with other youths searching for a greater voice in the Church and the world. Each participant will be challenged to consider what he or she can do to help build Kingdom of God on earth. John Carr, Director of the Office of Social Development and World Peace of the U.S. Catholic Conference, Washington, D.C., will close of the day with an inspirational reflection. The
cost of the conference is $25/adult and $15/youth, that includes
breakfast, lunch and workshop materials. For more information about
