Most Reverend James Roosevelt Bayley, first Bishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination - October 30, 1853; promoted to the Archiepiscopal See of Baltimore – July 30, 1872; Died Oct. 3, 1877.

Most Reverend Michael Augustine Corrigan, second Bishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination - May 4, 1873; succeeded to the Archiepiscopal See of New York – Oct. 10, 1885; Died May 5, 1902.

Most Reverend Winand Michael Wigger, third Bishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination – Oct. 18, 1881; Died Jan. 5, 1901.

Most Reverend John Joseph O’Connor, fourth Bishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination – July 25, 1901; Died May 20, 1927.

Most Reverend Thomas Joseph Walsh, fifth Bishop of Newark and first Archbishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination – July 25, 1918 as Bishop of Trenton; transferred to the See of Newark – March 2, 1928; elevation to Archbishop of Newark – April 27, 1938; Died June 6, 1952.

Most Reverend Thomas Aloysius Boland, second Archbishop of Newark. Eepiscopal Ordination – July 25, 1940, as Auxiliary Bishop of Newark; transferred to the See of Paterson – June 21, 1947; Appointed as Archbishop of Newark – Nov. 15, 1952; Retired April 2, 1974; Died March 16, 1979.

Most Reverend Peter Leo Gerety, third Archbishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination as Coadjutor Bishop of Portland, ME – June 1, 1966; installed as Third Archbishop of Newark, June 28, 1974; Retired, June 1, 1986.

Most Reverend Theodore Edgar McCarrick, fourth Archbishop of Newark. Episcopal Ordination as Auxiliary Bishop of New York – May 24, 1977; installed as fourth Archbishop of Newark – July 25, 1986; appointed fifth Archbishop of Washington, DC – Nov. 21, 2000.
