32nd Annual Cathedral Concert Series Now Under Way

The 2000-01 Cathedral Concert Series marks its 32nd year of musical tradition at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, 89 Ridge St, Newark.

In addition to the traditional performances, which include the Christmas Carol Sing and the Choral Meditations on the Stations of the Cross, the Concert Series will feature new performances such as the Thea Bowman Gospel Choir and internationally-acclaimed concert organist Anthony Newman.

Most Sunday performances in the Cathedral Concert Series begin at 4 p.m. Weekday evening performances begin at 8 p.m. A suggested donation of $10 or a Free-Will Offering is requested.

Polymania - A Duo Piano Recital
Mari Jo Polycastro and Steven Russell perform works of Grieg, Mozart, Fanny Mendelssohn with Brahm's Neue Liebeslieder Walzer sung by the Cathedral Quartet.

Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer Choplin
A performance by the Assistant Organist- St. Sulpice, Paris, the organ recital will feature works of Vierne, Boellmann and Alain, concluding with an improvisation on a submitted theme.

The 30th Annual Christmas Carol Sing
Under the direction of John J. Miller, with organist Pablo Fernandez, the Cathedral Choir with the Cathedral Brass & Percussion Ensemble will lead carols, including Gloria by John Rutter.

Resonance de France
The Cathedral Choir under the direction of John J. Miller, with organist Pablo Fernandez, will present an all French program of organ and choral music to celebrate the French Gothic architecture of the Cathedral Basilica. The program will include music by of Faure, Dupre, Langlais and feature the Messe Solenelle for Two Organs by Louis Vierne.

Choral Meditations on the Stations of the Cross
The Cathedral Choir, under the direction of John J. Miller, presents meditations within the context of the Stations of the Cross. The a cappella program includes works of Allegri, Lotti, and Poulenc.
