ARCHBISHOP CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO PRAY FOR PEACE IN JERUSALEM

Archbishop Theodore E. McCarrick, Archbishop of Newark, today called upon all of the faithful of the Archdiocese to pray for peace in Jerusalem.

In a message released today to the 236 parishes of the Archdiocese, the Archbishop requested pastors to include in the General Intercessions at all Masses during the weekends of October 7-8 and 14-15 a special prayer for peace in Jerusalem, for those who have died or been injured in the recent violence, and for all who are suffering in the Holy Land.

The message noted that the Archdiocese would be joining with the Patriarchs and Bishops of Jerusalem in calling for peace in the Holy City of Jerusalem. Earlier today, the US Commission for International Religious Freedom, of which the Archbishop is a member, announced that the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, Catholic and Protestant churches in Jerusalem would recite special prayers and peal their bells at midday this Sunday in support of efforts to bring peace to the city.
