Archdiocese of Newark Celebrates Annual Mass for Law Enforcement Officers
The Most Rev. John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark will be the principal celebrant at the 9th Annual Mass for Law Enforcement Officers, also known as the Blue Mass. The Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 7, 2002 at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge St., Newark. The procession and presentation of colors will start at 10:15 a.m.

Previous Masses have honored the men and women who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year. This year, the Mass will be unique in that no officer died while on the job this past year, allowing officers and their families and friends the opportunity to pray for their continued safety on the job.

“In recent years we have all developed a deeper, more profound appreciation for the men and women who serve and protect us, who give their lives so that we and our communities may remain safe. As we gather this year, let us be thankful that no officer has had to make the ultimate sacrifice. At the same time, let us pray that the Lord will continue to offer His protection to all in law enforcement, and grant eternal happiness to those brother and sister officers who have gone before,” said Archbishop Myers.

The Mass will honor law enforcement officers from throughout the four counties, Bergen, Essex, Hudson, and Union, of the Archdiocese and beyond. Law enforcement officers, family and friends are invited to attend the Mass and lend their support.

The Mass will be followed by a luncheon at the Rink in Branch Brook Park. Tickets to the luncheon are $20.
