Archdiocese
of Newark Remembers Black '47
The Newark
Archdiocese, in observance of the National Day of Remembrance for
the 150th anniversary of "Black '47," the most devastating year
of the Irish Famine, will sponsor the celebration of the Eucharist
at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Bloomfield.
Msgr.
Michael Kelly, headmaster of Seton Hall Preparatory School in West
Orange and Liaison to the Irish community of the archdiocese, will
be the principal celebrant. Msgr. Kevin Flanagan, pastor of St.
Lawrence the Martyr parish in Chester, will deliver the homily.
Those
attending the Mass are asked to donate a non-perishable food item
for the needy in the archdiocese and as a reminder of "Black '47."
Parishes
throughout the archdiocese are encouraged to toll their church bells
at 10:30 a.m. that day as part of the worldwide remembrance.
For more
information, call Msgr. Kelly at (973) 325-6624.
