Archdiocese of Newark Hosts Inaugural Mass for the EMS Community
Dedicated to the members of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) community and their families, the Archdiocese of Newark will host the inaugural Mass for the EMS community, Sunday, April 27, 12 noon. Celebrated in the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge St., Newark, the Mass is open to emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics (EMT-Ps) of all faiths.

Mass co-chair and EMT instructor Craig Stewart explains that being a member of the EMS community is a mission and a calling. Invitations to the Mass, which he hopes will boost the community’s morale, have been extended statewide to all EMTs, and their family and friends.

“At a time when the heroic nature of the work of pre-hospital care providers is being recognized, we gather to celebrate the EMS community,” said Rev. Msgr. Richard Arnhols, Archdiocesan Vicar for Pastoral Life.

All personnel in uniform will receive commemorative pins in honor of the occasion. EMTs, EMT-Ps and their family and friends are requested to be seated at 11:45 a.m. for presentation of colors. Secure parking will be available.

The committee, headed by retired Weehawken EMT Victor Sanchez and Stewart, is comprised of volunteer, paid, active and retired EMS workers and their chaplains. More information about the inaugural Mass for the EMS Community is available on the web at www.rcan.org/emsmass or by emailing emsmass@yahoo.com .
