Archdiocese of Newark Encourages Faithful Citizenship

Workshops for Faithful Citizenship: A Catholic Call to Political Responsibility will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2004, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. and Thursday, February 12, 2004, 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. at the Archdiocesan Center, 171 Clifton Ave., Newark. Recently issued by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCS) Administrative Committee, Faithful Citizenship, presents the Conference’s reflection on political responsibility in advance of each presidential election since 1975; it summarizes Catholic teaching on public life and key moral issues.

Speakers John Carr, Director, USCCB Department of Social Development and World Peace, and Joan Rosenhauer, Special Projects Coordinator, USCCB Social Development and World Peace, will present at the February 7 and February 12 meetings, respectively. Following the presentations, participants can attend breakout sessions on implementing Faithful Citizenship including: Preaching; In the Classroom; and In the Parish

Faithful Citizenship workshops are designed to help priests, deacons, religious educators, teachers, social concerns ministry leaders, youth and young adult ministers and RCIA leaders:

  • Be more informed about Catholic Social Teaching
  • Be equipped to preach on the Church’s teaching and key moral issues confronting Catholics
  • Be prepared to educate people on the Church’s social teaching and to encourage them to exercise their responsibilities as citizens and as believers who can help shape the priorities and policies of our nation.
