Pope John Paul II, Closings Throughout the nine days of mourning following the death of His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, the parishes and schools of the Archdiocese of Newark are scheduling numerous Memorial Masses and prayer services. Schools in the Archdiocese of Newark have been given the option of closing Friday, April 8 , 2005 , the day of the funeral of our Holy Father to commemorate the day of mourning. Schools will notify parents as the decision to close is made. Schools that remain open will participate in Memorial Masses and prayer services to commemorate the life and teachings of Pope John Paul II. Additionally, the Archdiocesan Center will be closed on April 8 , in prayerful memory of our Holy Father as he is laid to rest. Parishioners should check with their local parish for the date and time of their local Memorial Mass for Pope John Paul II.
