Don DiLeo & M. Brian Maher to be Honored at 13th Annual Archbishop of Newark’s Business and Labor Recognition Reception

Business and Labor leaders in the Archdiocese of Newark will gather at the Archbishop's 13th Annual Labor and Business Recognition Dinner to benefit CYO/Youth and Young Adult Ministries. The event will be held Tuesday, March 7 at the Mayfair Farms in West Orange, NJ.

The Labor and Business Recognition Dinner, which was created in 1994, recognizes the commitment made to the youth of the Archdiocese by business and labor. This event will raise money to help support the CYO/Youth and Young Adult Ministries, which continually provide a wealth of benefits to the youth of the Archdiocese through programs such as scouting, summer camps, organized sports, retreats, concerts, programs for the disabled, and peer and leadership training.

"Each year, the Archbishop's reception honors leaders of business and labor who provide fine examples of integrity and service in their communities," said William T. Mullen, reception chairman and president of the New Jersey Building Trades Council.

This year, the leaders to be honored for their contribution to helping the youth are M. Brian Maher, Chairman and CEO of Maher Terminals, Inc., and Don DiLeo, the President of the Teamsters Joint Council, Local No. 73.

"Both Mr. DiLeo and Mr. Maher are people who know the meaning of hard work, family values, and a commitment to making their communities better places in which to live," said the Most Reverend John J. Myers, Archbishop of Newark, when announcing this year's nominees.

Don DiLeo began his career with the Teamsters as a Business Agent in 1969 and in 1980 was elected President of Teamsters Local 408, which represents members in the building materials, heavy highway and construction industries. He was appointed to the Executive Board of Teamsters Joint Council 73, which represents 65,000 members affiliated with 20 local unions in New Jersey, in 1984. He has served as President of the Joint Council 73 and Chairman of the Joint 73 Pension Fund since 1996. He has also served on the New Jersey State Board of Mediation and serves as Chairman of the North Jersey Construction Negotiations Committee.

Involved in the shipping industry for more than 35 years, Mr. Maher serves as Chairman and CEO of Maher Terminals, one of the largest privately held marine terminals in the world and a major marine terminal operator in the Port of New York/New Jersey and supplier of state-of-the-art marine terminal computer services and software. A past chairman of the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Maher currently serves on its Executive Committee. He is also a member of the Board of

Regents for St. Peter's College, a Director of the New York Shipping Association and a Director and Officer of the United States Maritime Alliance.
