General Directions to accompany the Cooperative Admissions
Examination Materials for 2008-2009

1. Ninth Grade Applicant Record: Parents are requested to complete the first two sections of this form before submitting it to the student’s eighth grade teacher, counselor or principal who will complete the remaining three sections. Upon completion, a school official should separate the three forms and mail them to the high schools indicated. These forms should be received by the designated high schools by 5 December 2008.

It is important that high schools receive the final grades pertaining to Grade 6 and Grade 7, the first quarter or trimester grades for Grade 8; all standardized testing results; conduct, effort and attendance assessments.

2. Application: Side one contains the instructions for completing the application form. All directions should be followed closely. Applications are due to the Cooperative Admissions Examination Office by 24 October 2007. The application deadline for extended testing time for qualified students is firm. Please consult the Student Handbook for details.

3. Student Handbook: The handbook contains all pertinent information relative to the admissions process, completion of the application and the design of the examination. Parents and students should familiarize themselves with the material in this handbook. Students should take the sample test in this handbook several times. It might prove helpful to retain the handbook until February 2009.

4. School Choice:
Please be sure to read the accompanying literature describing, in general, the 32 secondary schools of the Archdiocese of Newark. Parents should accompany students to Open House programs and read school literature before selecting three secondary schools. Remember, testing site has no bearing on school choice. Please inform parents and students that school choice code numbers must be correctly entered and be consistent throughout the application process. Changing school choices may result in a non-selected school receiving score reports.

5. Extended Testing Time:
Students with an IEP specifying additional/extended testing time must apply for such as indicated in the Student Handbook. All deadlines regarding this accommodation must be followed. No exceptions! No other accommodations are provided for this program.

6. Special Note:
Students attending Catholic school outside of the Archdiocese of Newark or the Diocese of Paterson should be sure to indicate their elementary school with the ID Code 997.
